WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - For the second time this spring outdoor season, the Monmouth
University women's track and field team has produced two NEC weekly award honorees in one
week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon. For their accomplishments at the nationally
spotlighted Tennessee Sea Ray Relays meet, junior Mary Wilks (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton) and
freshman Emily MacEwen (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) earned Road Runner Sports
NEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors this week.
Earning Road Runner Sports NEC Women's Rookie of the Week honors, MacEwen won the
unseeded 800-meter run at Tennessee's Sea Ray Relays. Moving into third place on the Northeast
Conference leader board, MacEwen completed the race in 2:17.93. After competing in an 800m
race for the first time since the NEC Indoor Championships, MacEwen helped Monmouth's
3200-meter relay team (2:15 split) to a league-leading time (9:21.61).
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - This week a trio of members on the Monmouth University women's
and men's track teams earned Northeast Conference weekly awards for their standout
performances in last weekend's meets, conference officials announced Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman Emily MacEwen (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) picked up her second straight
Rookie of the Week award. MacEwen improved on her 800-meter time to take her second
consecutive Road Runner Sports NEC Women's Rookie of the Week honor. Shaving more than 1.6
seconds off the time she ran at Tennessee's Sea Ray Relays, the first-year Hawk placed fourth in
her heat at Princeton's Larry Ellis Friday Night Races. MacEwen crossed the line in 2:16.30 to
catapult herself into second place on the NEC leader board. Her time also makes her Monmouth's
freshman record holder. MacEwen earned her third career award - and second straight this
outdoor season - while Sabo and Fisher each picked up their second career honors.

MU WOMEN’S T&F WINS SECOND STRAIGHT NEC OUTDOOR TITLE
The Monmouth University men's track & field team pulled out all the stops in winning the 2010 NEC Outdoor T&F Championships this
afternoon on Mount St. Mary's' campus in Emmitsburg, Md. The Hawks made history winning the program's eighth championship while
posting the second best team score in NEC history (214.50 points), having 28 different athletes score points for the squad and notching
team points in all but two events this weekend. Beyond the team title, the Hawks also picked up three individual honors including Head
Coach Joe Compagni earning his 22nd career NEC Coach of the Year honor.
Fresh off of their All-NEC honors in the 4x800 meter relay yesterday, the trio of freshman Amanda Eller (Delmont, N.J./Millville), senior
Aracelis Lantigua (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) and freshman Emily MacEwen (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) all finished in the top-
eight in the 800 meters to earn vital points for MU. Eller ended the event fourth overall while Lantigua and MacEwen ended the event in
sixth and seventh respectively. Senior Laura Embrey (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional), who had been sidelined during the ten days
leading up to NEC's with a hamstring injury, ended her NEC career with a weekend that exemplified her perseverance placing in the 1500
meter run in seventh place.

NEC Track Athlete of the Week - For the Week of 2/1/2011 Christina Nelson, Monmouth Gr., Mid-Distance, Little Silver, NJ/Red Bank Nelson took over the top spot on the NEC performance list in the 800-meter run, and breaks Jessie Gaines’ streak of NEC Track Athlete of the Week awards as a result. Running the event for the first time this season, Nelson claimed gold at the Boston University Terrier Classic. She crossed the line in 2:11.46 to edge out Dartmouth’s Christina Supino and Rhode Island’s Brittany Pelsue for the meet title. Nelson’s time is well under the qualifying standard (2:14.44) for the ECAC Championships in March. Set to make he NEC Championship debut on February 12, Nelson became the first MU Hawk to win the indoor track weekly award since Michelle Losey held the honor on four occasions during the 2009-10 campaign. (Freshman shot putter Rachel Aliotta brought the NEC field award back to Monmouth last week.) MU Blue & White Invitational
